Michelangelo Biography



Michelangelo's full name was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. He was born on 6 March 1475. Michelangelo was a sculptor, architect, painter and poet of the Renaissance period. He is known for many famous works such as "Fresco", "Ceiling" of the Sistine Chapel, "Last Judgment on the Altar", "The Martyrdom of St. Peter", "The Convention of Center Paul". He designed the dome of St. Peter's Basilica.


Michelangelo was born in Tuscany, Italy. His father Lodoviso was the resident magistrate of Capersea. However Michelangelo was raised in Florence and later lived with the Satignano sculptor and his wife. That was his father's marble mine and small farm. He went against the father's will for three years as an apprentice to Domonico Thirlandio. Impressed by Domonico, he was sent to the Florence ruler Lorenzo.

From 1490 to 1492 Michelangelo learned a lot in Lorenzo's school. There he came in contact with many influential people. During this time, his ideas about art and sexuality changed. During this period, he worked on "Battle of the Cantors" and "Madonna of the Steps". After Lorenzo's death, his son refused to support Michael. By then the ideas of Savonarola had become quite popular in Florence.


Michelangelo left the city due to their pressures and came to Bologna. Shortly thereafter, Cardinal San Giorgio bought Michelangelo's marble cupid and decided to call him to Rome in 1496. Influenced by Roman art, Michael presented "Bacchus and Peeta".
