 Uddhav Thackeray is an Indian politician and the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is the son of Bal Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena.

Uddhav Thackeray was born on Wednesday, 26 July 1960 (age 59; till 2019) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Leo. He did his schooling from Balmohan Vidyamandir in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He graduated from Sir Jamsetji GJBhoy School of Art in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Uddhav was not interested in politics at all, and wanted to do something in another area. He began doing professional photography, and has also been a writer. Uddhav also started an advertising agency named "Chowrang". However, the agency had no success and had to shut down after some time.

Family, Caste and Wife

Uddhav Thackeray belongs to Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu caste (CKP) [1] Hindustan Times. His father, Bal Thackeray was a prominent politician and the founder of Shiv Sena. His mother, Meena Thackeray was a housewife. He has two elder brothers, Bindumadhav Thackeray (businessman and film producer), who died in a car accident on 20 April 1996 and Jaidev Thackeray. His cousin, Raj Thackeray is a politician and the founder of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

Uddhav met his wife, Rashmi Thackeray (businessman and member of Shiv Sena's women's wing) during his college days and fell in love with her. They dated briefly and married on 13 December 1988. He has two sons, Aditya Thackeray (politician) and Tejas Thackeray (wildlife researcher).


Career-

When Uddhav joined the Shiv Sena as a member, many people did not know about him; As he kept a low profile. He has worked in the Shiv Sena in many capacities from ground level to state level. In 2002, he was assigned the responsibility of overseeing the 2002 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections by Bal Thackeray. The Shiv Sena performed very well in the BMC elections under Uddhav and came into the limelight.

In 2003, Uddhav was appointed as the acting president of the Shiv Sena. In 2013, he was selected as the Shiv Sena chief after the death of Bal Thackeray. In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, Shiv Sena contested as an ally with the BJP. However, when the results were announced, Uddhav demanded seat-sharing and power-sharing for the post of Chief Minister. He wanted the Shiv Sena member to be the chief minister for two and a half years. BJP said that no such thing was agreed before the election and they will not abide by it now.



Eventually, Uddhav tied up with Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi to form the government in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress named their alliance "Maha Vikas Agadi". Uddhav was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on 28 November 2019 at 6:40 pm.


Controversy-

On 24 October 2011, Uddhav threatened Sanjay Nirupam and said that if he causes any disturbances in Mumbai, he will break his teeth. During a rally, Nirupam targeted Uddhav and Raj Thackeray and said - "North Indians can bring Mumbai to a halt if they choose." [2] DNA India

On 1 October 2016, Uddhav had to publicly apologize about a cartoon that was published in the 25th edition of "Samana" and "Dopahar Ka Samana". Allegedly, the cartoon made fun of the Maradha community, and Uddhav as editor-in-chief. Samana had to apologize unconditionally after facing backlash from the Maratha community.

  • Uddhav was reluctant to enter politics, but his wife persuaded him to start a career in politics.
  • He loves doing wild life photography and playing badminton.
  • Like Bal Thackeray, he only wants to work for the people of Maharashtra, and he is not interested in national politics.
  • In 2006, his cousin Raj Thackeray parted ways with the Shiv Sena and formed the "Maharashtra Navnirman Sena" (MNS).
  • His elder son, Aditya Thackeray is the president of Yuva Sena (youth wing of Shiv Sena). Aditya was appointed as the chairman of the youth wing by Bal Thackeray.
